Massachusetts Federation of Republican Women - Fall 2004 Newsletter

From the President's Desk

Dear Members,

I am sure that I speak for all candidates when I say that your effort in all their campaigns is greatly appreciated. By the time you receive this letter, the primary will be over and the real work will have begun. Be diligent, and perhaps Massachusetts will be well on its way to becoming a true two-party state.

However, the MFRW has another pressing issue on its agenda. In October, at our Fall Meeting, we will be presenting a new version of the By-Laws for our State Federation. These changes come at the request of many. We need YOU to be present to vote your views on these matters. This is your Federation and your opinion is vital.

The first major revision moves the Annual Meeting from December to October, with new officers taking office the following January 1st.

This is mainly a weather issue, but it would have the added benefit of coinciding with the National Federation.

The second proposal has to do with the length of time in office and would allow officers on the Board to have the option of two two-year consecutive terms. This would give officers more time to execute plans and programs, and would ensure continuity of MFRW leadership during state and national election years.

Enclosed in this Newsletter, you will find a copy of the new proposed By-Laws. You can compare them with your old copy for minor changes. I encourage all of you to ask questions and suggest changes at the October 27 meeting if you are a voting member.

If the new By-Laws are accepted, the Fall meeting will be adjourned and the Annual Meeting will be called to order.

At this time, the new slate of Officers will be presented. If you know of anyone who would like to serve on the Board, Carol Sneden 978-256-2327 needs their name. It is vital that the Board be all-inclusive. Every club is invited to have a participating member.

In closing, I encourage you to attend our Fall Meeting. I know it comes at a very busy time, just two days before the 72 hour push, but it is your active participation that will keep the MFRW an integral part of the election process.

Sincerely,

Donna D. Ryan, President
